매년 4~5월, 한국 서해 갯벌은 도요새로 가득했다. 번식을 위해 호주에서 시베리아로 날아가는 도요새들은 먹이가 풍부한 갯벌에서 잠시 쉬면서 체력을 보충했다. 하지만 2004년 세계 최대의 도요새 서식지였던 군산 옥구염전이 폐쇄되고 간척 사업으로 서해 갯벌이 점점 줄어들면서, 도요새의 흔적은 찾을 수 없었다. 그 많던 도요새는 다 어디로 간 것일까? 다큐멘터리는 한국과 호주의 도요새 서식지를 찾아 도요새의 습성과 이동경로를 살피고 사라진 도요새의 흔적을 추적하며 자연과 인간의 공존과 환경 보전의 중요성을 강조한다.
Every April and May, the mudflats in the South Korean West Sea were full of snipes. They were flying from Australia to Siberia for breeding and rested for a while on the mudflats, which provided a lot of food. In 2004, however, the Okgu salt farm, the snipes' most giant habitat in Gunsan, South Korea, was closed due to land development. Since then, we could not find any trace of the snipes.
