1993년 인천, 사채업자 두석과 종배는 조선족 불법체류자 명자에게 빌린 돈을 갚으라고 독촉한다. 명자가 돈이 없다고 하자, 두식은 명자의 딸 승이를 담보로 데려간다. 다음날 명자는 불법체류자 단속에 발각되어 중국으로 곧 보내질 처지가 되고, 명자는 두석을 불러 그가 돈을 벌어 올 때까지 승이를 맡아달라고 한다. 그렇게 갑자기 어린 소녀의 보호자가 된 두 남자는 아이를 잘 돌볼 수 있는 집으로 승이를 보내려 한다. 하지만 예상과 달리 승이가 학대받는 처지에 놓이자 이들은 승이를 직접 키우기로 결심한다. 여러 우여곡절을 겪으면서 세 사람은 어느덧 서로에게 특별한 존재가 된다.
In 1993 Inchon, loan sharks Do-seok and Jong-bae press Myung-ja, an illegal immigrant worker, to pay back the debt. When Myung-ja says she has no money right now, they take her daughter, Seung-yi, as a pawn. However, Myung-ja gets caught by the authority and is about to be sent back to China. Myung-ja asks Do-seok to take care of Seung-yi while she makes money to get her daughter back. The two men, unexpectedly becoming the guardians of a young girl, try to send Seung-yi to a lovely family who can take care of her. When they find out Seung-yi is in an abusive circumstance, they decide to take care of her. And that's how the three people become a unique family.
