피아노 천재 윤유슬은 시험에서 1등을 한 날, 엄마의 차를 타고 학원으로 향하다 교통사고를 당해 시력을 잃는다. 유슬에 가려 매번 2등만 하던 진목은 자신이 기도한 것 때문에 유슬이 사고를 당했다고 생각하며 죄책감에 시달린다. 한편, 장대높이뛰기 선수 정차식은 국가대표선발전에서 신기록에 도전하다 사고를 당하고, 무리한 운동 때문에 다시는 운동을 해선 안 된다는 말을 듣는다. 차식은 자신의 친아버지가 유명 피아니스트 현명세라는 걸 알고는 자신도 재능이 있음을 증명하고자 한다. 그는 피아노를 더 이상 연주하지 않으려는 유슬에게 새로운 도전을 제안하고, 진목은 그런 차식의 넘치는 자신감이 못마땅하다.
