국민의, 국민에 의한, 국민을 위하는 정치라는 사상으로 이루어진 민주주의는 현재 대한민국을 비롯, 세계의 거의 모든 나라의 정치적, 그리고 사회적 밑바침을 하는 제도이다. 하지만 우리가 과연 민주주의에 대해서 잘 알고 있을까? 민중, 또는 다수에게 절대적 힘을 주는 민주주의에서 가장 중요한 것은 그 다수의 의식의 고양일 것이다. 이 프로그램은 민주주의의 주인공이자 심판이자 혜택자인 국민들이 자신들에게 주어진 권리와 책임을 이해할 수 있도록 도와준다.
Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address defines democracy as the government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Currently, democratic ideas are at the root of most government system and societies in the world, including Korea. However, we must ask ourselves how much we know about democracy. Democratic society’s well-being relies heavily on its people, since democracy is, as defined by Lincoln, the government by the people.
