임방울 국악제는 한국 판소리의 역사, 국악 명창 임방울 선생을 기념하는 국악 대회다. 광복 전후 고통받던 민중에게 희망 을 심어준 가객의 업적을 기리고, 한국 판소리의 전승을 위해 개최한다. 임방울 선생의 고향 광주에서 한국 판소리의 다음을 이끌 소리꾼을 만나보자.
Imbangul Gugak Festival is a national pansori contest to honor Im Bang-ul, the great singer in the 1920~50s who gave people comfort in a painful time. The competition held at Kwangju, Mr. Im's hometown, is one of the most renowned music competitions for Korean Traditional Music singers.
